Hi! I’m Michelle the maker behind Baldwin Pottery.

Originally from the Chicagoland area, I’ve called the Sandhills of North Carolina home for over 13 years. I create each piece from my home studio, where I balance life as a full-time software developer, wife, and mom.

For years, I trained competitively for long-distance races including half marathons, full marathons, and even an ultramarathon. After completing the Chicago Marathon, I realized I was ready for a different pace, something slower and more intentional. That’s when I found pottery! I discovered my love for pottery through night classes at a local community college, and it quickly grew into something much more than a hobby. Even after a serious wrist surgery early in my journey, I stayed committed to learning and growing in the craft. I knew this was something I wasn’t going to walk away from (whew, those one-handed wheel throwing days were no joke).

My process is slow and intentional. I’m not a production potter, and I don’t keep large inventories of the same pieces. Most of what I create is made in small batches, and once those pieces are gone, I usually move on to something new. Occasionally I’ll revisit a design if there’s a strong pull for it from you guys, but for the most part, each batch captures a moment in time. My work is shaped by the season of life I’m in and what brings me joy in the studio at that moment. Because of that, it naturally evolves.
Even something as simple as reaching for a mug in the morning can feel like a small, thoughtful choice. Some days I’m drawn to something bright and full of energy; other days, something quieter and more grounded. Those small shifts are really what inspire the pieces I create.
I enjoy shaping my pieces on the pottery wheel and the challenge of making them similar. However, this is handmade ceramics so please keep in mind no two are ever exactly the same, and I think that’s part of what makes them special. :)
Thank you for being here, it truly means a lot. I hope you find something I’ve created that brings a little joy into your everyday life.
